I mean, just compare the two players on what they've done at the same stage.
During their rookie years both played in the D-League, let's see the stats :
Babbitt 29min (14 games) 20.1 points (55 2P%, 37.5 3P%, 88.1 FT%) 7.4 rbds 1.5 asst 0.9 stl
Miller 27.2min (11 games) 9.9 points ( 41.9 2P%, 51.2 3P%, 76.9 FT%) 3.5 rbds 1.6 asst 0.6 stl
So except for the 3point shooting and the assist, Babbit perfomed better than Miller. He dominated in D-league.
Then let's compare their stats as sophomore in the NBA :
Babbitt 40 games 13.4min 5.1 points (41 FG%, 43.0 3P%, 85.0 FT%) 2.4 rbds 0.4 assts
Miller 22 games 13.2 min 3.1 points ( 42.6 FG%, 39.4 3P%, 90.9 FT%) 1.3 rbds 0.8 assts
So again, except for the assist, Babbitt performed better at the same stage of development.
Now, let's take a look at how he performs this year in Russia :
VTB United League 9 games 19.4 minutes 13.3 points (47.9 2P%, 51.6 3P%, 81.3 FT%) 3.7 rbds 1.3 asst
Eurocup 9 games 16.1 minutes 13.2points (55 2P%, 63.3 3P%, 85.7 FT%) 3.7 rbds 1.2 asst
For comparison's sake here are the Eurocup stats of Dario Saric :
10 games 32.1 minutes 12.9 points 8.3 rbds 2.7 assts
Babbitt's number are just stellar. So he proved he could fit quickly in a new culture (life in russia, serbian head coach), that shows some great maturity.
IMO he's clearly more ready to contibute this year than Miller.
Now about the "far more upside" thing, did you know that Babbitt is only 9 month older than Miller ? He's also taller (by 1 inch) and has longer wingspan (by 2 inches). I mean he may not be as athletic as Miller is but it's not like Darius is using it to beat the opponents.
Babbitt seems to be a poor man's Gallinari and he's low risk gamble, so I like this signing.
