Not sure about that. I had the same thought when he was signed. There is a reason we waited this long to sign him. They could have been considering sending him overseas if we signed Oden in order to give Oden the "big man developmental" time. If we have an indication that Oden is signing elsewhere, we would use Withey in that role. Pure speculation, but the timing of the signing gives me pause.

Exactly, going overseas (not signed to a team's roster). By signing Withey, we are giving him a roster spot rather than leaving him unsigned to send overseas. It may have nothing at all to do with Oden, but the timing just seems a bit coincidental.

If that was the case, we'd just wait a week until Oden announces who he signs with. There's no rush or deadline to send Withey overseas if that's what we wanted to do.
