Thread: Our guards

    Our guards

... have been getting beaten like a drum on defense. Gordon can't come back quick enough. But, I think with this game, Lopez boosted his trade stock and maybe we could make a move for a Gerald Henderson. Something needs to be done with this back court.

Also I'm just frustrated after this beat-down from the Clippers.

With Gordon healthy we are deep enough at SG, without Lopez we wouldn't have a real C
    HR Sim League: NY Knicks

PG Tony Parker SG - SF Richard Jefferson PF Amare Stoudemire C Yao

Bench: PG- SG- SF- PF Anderson Varejao C Brendan Haywood

But Rivers is supposed to be playing the point more once Gordon gets back. At least that's what I have been hearing from Monty. A rotation at the 1 with Vasquez and Rivers, and at the 2 with Gordon and Henderson, is a pretty solid back court. Either way, you can't tell me our guard depth is okay as it is. As for Lopez, though his size won't immediately be replaced, it will open up more minutes for Davis and Anderson to be on the court together. His role as a big body can be replaced in the off-season.

I would like to see Vasquez play more off ball when Gordon returns.

I would like to see more of that now. He really is a pretty good shooter, but the way our offense is right now, the ball is ALWAYS going to be in his hands.

Why are we so eager to get rid of a 24 year old 7 footer with a PER of nearly 20 on an amazingly flexible contract? I'm not quite sure I get it.

Because some people think quality centers grow on trees. Unless there is a clear upgrade, we'd be stupid to get rid of him.

I'm not in that group. I wouldn't mind trading GV but not if it means getting rid of Lopez. Team just needs a basic PG with NBA level quickness to run this offense. GV is more suited for a San Antonio/Minnesota type offense.

I'm sure Devin Harris can be had by some combo of players on the current Hornets roster. Right?

We could do that or we could just wait until free agency to sign him or someone like Jeff Teauge so we don't have to give up any of our assets.

people need to quit on the idea that Lopez is going to be traded anytime soon for scrap.. He is on a very good contract for us and is playing well. He is the type of player we need next to Davis. A guy who can take the beating from the other teams bigs so that Davis body doesnt get worn out.

What do you mean by a SA or MN type of offense? Those guys rely on the quickness of their guards pretty extensively.

With the problems we have had the past few years with centers not scoring or being able to defend bigger guys I cant believe the # of posters who throw lopez into trade talks. I like having a legit 7' center.

Same. Even though is lack of vertical cracks me up. I mean Bledsoe out jumped him. It's hilarious that he really can only jump like 2-6 inches off the ground. lol

He has an outstanding contract... which is why I think he's gonna be traded at some time. The next 2 years are team options right? Why let him walk without compensation? Get some value in-return. Of course we'll need to find a full-time center that can play alongside AD and Ryno. I appreciate Lopez and what he brings but he's not a long-term starter.

Thought this would be some kind of "Our Game" parody.

exactly, it'll make a world of difference. We need him to adopt a James Harden-like role bringing the ball up at the 2 and he's easily our best ball handler on the team

If we give up Lopez we probably could always go back and get Aaron Gray right? How's his contract? His vert has got to better than Robin's right?

The problem with this is our best offensive player, plays the same position as Davis.
