Interesting, I came across this (a lot of you are probably already aware of it). New Orleans should be major players in the off-season.

It will be interesting to see if Lopez is picked up but i'm sure he will be since his contract is actually very fair given his size and production.

Agreed with every point you've made. I personally think they're gonna let Aminu walk IF they make a major play for a SF that has All-Star ability. If they strike gold, bye bye Al-Farouq. They'll definitely have the cap space to do so.....


Another elephant in the room is obviously Gordon and his future here. If they can swing a trade to a team and get another SG or SF here, then Aminu's gone and Rivers may switch permanently to the PG position. So many exciting possibilities for the next two seasons

I think we will let X walk. And it really comes down to how much they want to pay aminu to be a back up. If we can get 2 good players at the PG and SF positions, in either the draft or free agency, think of a bench of vasquez aminu smith ryno? (may be starting next year). We would easily have one of the best bench's in the nba.

With out Lopez and keeping Thomas, Roberts, and Miller, we are sitting at $37.461 million between 9 players. Add in Lopez, and we're up to $42.58 million between 10 players. Factor in 2 minimum cap holds to get the roster up to 12 guys (I'm assuming for around $750k a piece), and we have around $14 million in cap space. That is enough to offer a max contract to a guy coming off his rookie deal.

A roster charge if the team has fewer than 12 players (players under contract, free agents included in team salary, players given offer sheets, and first round draft picks). The roster charge is equal to the rookie minimum salary for each player fewer than 12.

Boy.... That's a lot of available cap dollars... I think our best bet is to trade Lopez for a young vet on a rookie contract still *cough* Bledsoe *cough*. I'd hate to just cut him outright if we end up needing the money. He is a very solid player on a great contract, and he should net a decent return in a trade.

There is still another part of this that needs to be discussed- and that is the cap room of other teams. Having 15 million in cap room is much more valuable when nobody else has cap room, but if 12 other teams have that much room (or more), then what happens when there are only 3-4 guys on the market worthy of big $$$?
