Rumor Gortat for Austin Rivers and Al-Farouq Aminu (Random ESPN Trade Idea)

Phoenix would bring in two young players at positions of need, with the hope that Austin Rivers becomes a star and Al-Farouq Aminu at least a solid role player. It would admittedly mean cutting bait early on Rivers if you're New Orleans, but it'd be worth doing for the chance to bring in one of the game's marquee centers to pair with Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson in the frontcourt. When healthy, the Hornets could present a starting unit composed of Greivis Vasquez, Eric Gordon, Davis, Anderson and Gortat, with Robin Lopez coming off the bench in a role for which he is more suited.

That would be a horrible trade.

Is it really a rumor if it's a random trade idea?

Eewwww no. I like RoLo. Giving up too much potential for one 28 year old center who's arguably not even in the top 5 at his position. If we're that desperate for a scoring-type center, I say go after Al Jefferson in either a trade or this upcoming free agency.

Gortat doesn't even qualify as a 'scoring-type center.'

It was an article written by Joe Kaiser for ESPN Insider's Rumor Central. He listed four other of his trade ideas for Gortat.

    1. Gortat for Avery Bradley and Courtney Lee
    2. Gortat and Kendall Marshall for Tobias Harris, John Henson and Drew Gooden
    3. Gortat for Kendrick Perkins, Jeremy Lamb and a first-round pick in 2013
    4. Gortat for Meyers Leonard, J.J. Hickson and a first-round pick in 2013 (no lottery protection)

So basically he's a Phoenix blogger/homer looking to get unreasonable returns for a semi-decent veteran center? He seriously overrates Gortat's value. 3 and 4 are particularly laughable.

Gortat is a good player, but he was a beneficiary of the Nash Effect

Didn't Phoenix GM come out and say he wasn't trading Gortat for Gordon? Doubt he would do it for less proven players. From our stand point we are a young rebuilding team no need to add a vet like Gortat at the expense of said youth.

This guy is severely overrating Gortat... and I think Gortat is a really good C but c'mon....

It's insultingly stupid, this trade is.

Whoever thought up that idea only thought of it from the Suns' perspective.

Where would this leave Jason Smith for the Hornets? It also would cut playing time for Robin Lopez. Aside form that, the thin backcourt for the hornets would get even thinner.

Really, this is one of the worst trade ideas out there.

Considering Rivers is an unproven rookie who has struggled early and Aminu is a free agent after the season, Phoenix would think they were getting ripped off in this deal. They would never consider it. For us, it would make no sense as we are rebuilding around youth. This is one of these silly ideas that is not really good for either team.

Thank God this isn't a legitimate rumor.

"I'm not going to allow my putative owner to answer that question, this is an NBA related press conference. Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell have collectively sung their praises of Tom and if uh ESPN has a problem with that tell Mr. Skipper to call me at my office."

Gortat for Austin Rivers and Al-Farouq Aminu (Random ESPN Trade Idea)

Not to mention it states Robin Lopez is better suited coming off the bench, I feel he has responded very well to getting the starting job.

Imagine how played Lopez would've felt? He leaves Phoenix to start from under Gortat...then we trade for Gortat and Lopez goes right back to the bench.

Sorry for scaring everyone with this trade idea, I saw it out there and thought it would make a fun discussion. I must agree it is a terrible trade proposal but every team has their homer writers.
