I'm also not convinced PHX had the space to take Johnson whilr Keeping Warrick and make the signing for Lopez at nearly $5m.

I did not run the numbers, but I asked a Suns writer to do so thay was his answer.

About Charlotte: we have to be able to make the signing in a sign and trade and they are not flush with room. Hoopshype total salary figure was lower than the sum of listed salary. Check that math, if you have time.

ETA: I get them at a half mil over what's allowed if they don't move anyone but Lopez.

And taking advantage of Minne's need.

    So what?

No, Minny is paying Phoenix to take Johnson's contract. Why does Minny care about Lopez?

Nevermind, maybe we just sign and trade Landry to GS, and use the TPE to push the deal through

From the Suns point of view the pick they are getting is the compensation for Lopez.

Some people try to figure this stuff out and are happy and willing to study up and learn. Others pretend they are the only one with a 100% correct twitter feed and internet, then roll around beating their chests until the situation changes, then they slink off. I got pounded for a still ambiguous CBA FAQ interpretation and haopily adjusted when convinced of the ambiguity. Those pounders, however failed to pick up on these difficulties because no one was saying them. Sfernald did things the right way, had some mental lapses elsewhere and missed these wrinkles (distracted by me likely), but no biggie... we're trying to work this out. This chest beating from these Suns idiots helps no one.

There are many decent Suns fans, of course.

    And other things.

It's not as simple as that.

No. You are wrong. Just stop. The deal isn't Lopez for a 1st round pick. The deal is Lopez for cap space. That is all he is worth as an RFA who doesn't want to re-sign with the original team. With that cap space, they are taking on Wes Johnson and a 1st round pick.

That is how this whole thing works. How do people still not understand this?

Exactly right. Where have you been?

Then why were sign and trade discussions going on with Charlotte in the first place. If we do a sign and trade for nothing that will create the "cap space" to push this thing through.

Minny is willing to trade Wes Johnson and a 1st round pick to anyone who is willing to take on his contract and has the necessary cap space to do so. It has nothing to do with Lopez.

For example, let's say that the Warriors had the cap space to take on Johnson's contract, they could dump him on them. It doesn't have anything to do with Lopez or the Suns. It just so happens that the Suns are the only team with cap space that is willing to take on Johnson. That's it. Stop trying to act like the Suns' GM is some genius who got great value for an RFA who wanted out of town. He didn't. The Suns' GM is below average, as evidenced by the albatross contracts that he gave Beasley and Dragic.

    There was yakking about it.

The way to do it would be to drop Miller's salary, then sign Carl into that space. If you do that, this other deal can't happen. Plus, signing the rookies reduced the soace from the time since the reports, none verified.

The Suns are $10M under the cap. They can rescind Lopez's QO (his cap hold is $7M) and trade a 2nd rounder for Johnson + 1st without Hornets' "help". Then Hornets would be left with nothing.

Yeah, the reason this is a 3 team deal is because on their own Minnesota just swaps Johnson and a 1st for cap space, but making it a multiplayer deal they get Dyson and 2 2nds in return. No one is doing anyone any favors. The reason they are coming together is because they are all better off than if the deal was all separate. For example, the PHX/NO only trade means you have to include Henry rather than Dyson, and Demps undoubtedly values Henry more than Dyson.

That isn't the point. The point is that they aren't trading Lopez for a 1st round pick. The Suns are taking on a bad contract, and in return, they are being compensated with a draft pick. This happens all the time.

And if they have all this cap space, then why do they need to include Warrick in the trade? He is expiring, so it really shouldn't matter.

  16. #1066
Lopez does not need a 1st round draft pick for compensation, it's a S&T.
And we are also offering Miller's contract for that anyway. For it to work Phx needs to get rid of Warrick contract too.

To be honest, if we can't send Miller back to the TWolves, I'm not sure how having them in the deal helps. Just find another team ...

Precisely. Has nothing to do with Lopez for a 1st round pick, like the Suns fans are making it out to be.

Salaries need to match. Miller makes it work from our end.

Suns can waive Tucker and keep Warrick if they want this first.

So confused.. so are you guys basically saying that the Suns writers and fans are wrong?

If the Hornets want Lopez they have to give up some assets. They don't have anything the Suns want so they found a 3rd team to facilitate this trade and send an asset (draft pick) to the Suns. In return this 3rd team gets cap space and draft picks from NOH.

Then do it, we'll still have a brighter future than Phoenix with Dragic, Beasley and Gortat

It's ALL about the 1st round draft pick from the Suns point of view.

No it's not, they could get the 1st on their own, but like you already said, they'd have to give up 2nds to complete the deal. The 3way lets them get the 1st for Johnson AND dump Warrick AND not give up any 2nds, 2 things that don't happen with NO being involved.
