There will be significant interest with NBA teams to claim Brand off the amnesty wire.

I'm guessing we might be one of those NBA teams with significant interest in claiming Brand off of the amnesty wire. Thoughts? Doesn't he play center, or at least have the ability to because of his large wingspan?
Brand? a Center? nah... think a stronger Carl Landry.

I think he would be fine with Davis. They would complement each other:

    From ESPN:
Slow-footed big man with devastating midrange jump shot off pick-and-pop.

+ Solid rebounder, thanks to long arms and wide build. Decent handle for size.

+ Strong, smart team defender but overmatched against good post scorers.

Now that he can't run anymore, Brand has become Mr. Midrange, and did it effectively enough last season that he was still a very useful player. Last season he led the NBA in field goals from 10-to-15 feet with 159 and attempts with 325. To put this in context, he had about 25 percent more tries from that area than the next closest player, Dirk Nowitzki. He made them, too, making 48.6 percent, so nobody's complaining. However, one suspects he'll have trouble maintaining that lofty level, which is why he should expect his field-goal percentage and PER to regress about this coming season.

Meanwhile, Brand took fewer than three shots a game at the rim. He's no longer a dominating interior player, with middling rebound and free throw rates, and in particular he struggles to score against long defenders. However, the switch to jumpers reversed the plague of turnovers that descended upon Brand in his first campaign in Philly -- he had the eighth-best turnover rate among power forwards last season -- and as a result he had his best PER since injuring his Achilles. He's a smart player and these stats show it, as he made the necessary adjustments to compensate for his changing abilities.

Defensively, Brand still has long arms, a good base and his smarts, so the drop-off has been less noticeable. The Sixers don't let him anywhere near good post scorers, but as a helping big man he's effective and his physicality is beneficial.

Why not? He's a free asset. Trade him to a contender for a pick at some point. He will be on a great contract. He should be able to play with AD just fine.

Of course you place a bid. And he can play Center, despite his height. He's the same height as Joel Anthony. If you have a guy like Davis it could work.

Besides, its only one year. I just want warm bodies until we hit FA next year and the year after.

What would the bid be like? Not familiar with the generalities.
    Wherehappens.

The highest bid per year (he only has one year left) gets him.

So if we bid 1 million, the Rockets bid 3 million, and the Raptors bid 7 million, the Raptors get him. They pay him 7 million, and the 76ers pay the rest of his salary (ie the amount they owe him is reduced by the amount the team bid on him).

Didn't he decline an offer from the Wizards last offseason as a restricted free agent before he was traded because he felt he was worth more and was willing to risk it all by proving the Wizards wrong that season? Now we see how that has worked out for him

Da Throne needs to take notes

Put a bid in, how high would it have to be?

I understand what a bid is, I mean more along the lines of what is the average for a player like him at his age?

Probably a lot more than what the bid will be.

    Doesn't he want the max?

I would venture to say Brand with his lack of height, would still push around many of today's centers. They guy has never been a model of fitness, or had the height of a big, but he is constantly a top 8 big in the league.

I would bring brand in over the bigs we currently have in his spot. He is a leader, and this team doesn't have one.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

I like Lou Williams, but I'm not sure I'll like his price range...
Never looking back...or too far in front of me - the present is a gift, and I just wanna BEE.

Yes I think we should put in a bid for Brand, but I would say 4-6million. I wouldnt go any higher than 6million which I can see another team that likes to overpay for players out bidding us lol.

  17. #692
Yea just slap a big daddy Lincoln on brand and see what happens.

He actually played more time at center this past year than PF according to 82games.com

He's got a great wingspan and is strong so he can play C against a lot of players. With Davis I think he'd be just fine playing center.

    I'd take Carl over Brand

Exactly. To the guy in the other thread who asked why we are sitting on our hands...THIS is why.

In about 2 years when the reality of the new Lux Tax sets in, you'll be able to get similar players for about half the price they are going for now. Patience.

He'd be a nice fallback if we do lose Gordon...

However, I'd prefer Mayo for cheaper.
