I was mostly talking about the sale of the brand which I would still expect to happen in the next month if Benson was going to buy it. He can still announce it and have it set to 'go live' in 2013-2014. If he doesn't buy it in August/September then he probably will never buy it.

No, although the Arena Bowl will be in town in a couple of weeks so that would give Benson and the AFL a chance at face-to-face negotiations if he is still interested.

if benson REALLY wants the name he should show up to the meeting with cash, flash $3 million in their faces, they would be dumb not to accept.

While Benson could do that let's not forget who we're talking about. This is a guy who puts the brass screws to anyone and everyone he brokers a deal with from the State of Louisiana, to the City of New Orleans, to David Stern and the NBA. Yes, three million is pocket change to him but I doubt he gives up a dime more than he has to for the name.

What I think is, the 2 year rule is in place if a team just wants a new name. But if a team wants to change their name because of new ownership or a relocation, then perhaps exceptions are then made to shorten the rule.
