I have been following the rebrand thread off-and-on so I don't know. Also, I'm not
saying I even like the name as a mascot (I prefer the Krewe or Brass or Pelicans)

Anyway, I though ARC referred to the length of a curved boundary (as in geometry) or a town in France (as in Joan of Arc) whereas ARCH comes from the Greek root ARKHE meaning "beginning," or "foundation."
    Three point arc.
    Wherehappens.

Got it. That makes sense. I wouldn't/obviously didn't get it until it was explained to me so I'm even less for it than I was before. Kinda like when I heard Mrs. Benson say she liked the name "Cardinals." My first thought was the bird (a la St Louis baseball, Arizona Football...) and not the red-robed men.

Me too. I'm actually sitting in a classroom right now and trying to do anything but pay attention.
This includes ponder Arc/Arch wordplays for potential mascots...

I just came up with this on Photoshop. If we decide not to go with the Krewe of New Orleans, I think it should be this!

    42 explained it well.

    1. Arc Angels is a basketball/NOLA pun for the word archangels.

    2. Arc is the 3-point line and synonym of crescent (as in Crescent city)

    3. Angels is a synonym of saints.

Arc Angels, the perfect name for a basketball team in New Orleans.

Emeka Okafor - Joe Smith - Carmelo Anthony - Manu Ginobili - Jason Williams

Al Jefferson - James Posey - Aaron McKie - Shaun Livingston

If you have to explain it, then it doesn't scream NOLA. I think one of you used that against me when I made a (much more compelling, btw) argument for a different name. But hey, hard to know what screams NOLA when you live in Lake Chuck.

Lazy argument. 49'ers means? 76'ers? Celtics has what to do with Boston without living there or having a sense of history? I know what they mean. They don't scream anything.

Lakers. Thunder. SuperSonics. Orlando. All decent reasons IF you have knowledge.

Explaining it to someone doesn't mean you HAVE to explain it.

Do you know the real Saints story? It's from the song. That's it. Nothing else. That screams NOLA why? ONE of the people who adopted it was from here, the forsook the city because he couldn't get a decent hotel because of his genes.

    Screams nola why?

Zephyr screams nola why? You ride the ride?

    Get over it.

What's a Celtic or a Clipper for that matter?

I mean Krewe of New Orleans, New Orleans Crescents, New Orleans VooDoo, and New Orleans Buccaneers/Corsairs/Pirates have easily explained ties or obvious ones, but they haven't caught on like talking about.

49ers was from the gold rush of 1849.

Celtics - all the Irish in Boston.

Saints - and the cool tie in that the team was announced on Nov 1st, All Saints Day.

    New Orleans Souls
    New Orleans Jambalaya
    New Orleans Pralines
    New Orleans Daiquiris
    New Orleans Mambo Kings
    New Orleans Gentlemen
    New Orleans Degeneres
    New Orleans Mr Bill!
    New Orleans SLuggo
    New Orleans City Park
    New Orleans Birds
    New Orleans Mosquitos

    Celtic - derives from Ireland.

    Clipper - type of ship.

Dukes - classical, Original, New Orleans!!!

Correct on 49'ers. Celtics are a very fuzzy body of people who were mostly on the European mainland. Funny, that. But you are correct there, too. It's just that the derivation isn't academically correct. Right on Clippers.

The Saints announcement was delayed until then just for kicks, to take advantage of the tie-in.

    Someone reads! I love it!

Most could guess that Celtic was something Irish, what with all the green, leprechauns and what not, but specifically? I mean someone once said a reason not to go with Arc(h)Angels because they'd never heard of archangels before.
