http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baske...yon/54038064/1The New Orleans Hornets are expected to pick up the $1.5 million option on the contract of rookie forward-center Gustavo Ayon, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports. Ayon, the third Mexican-born player in NBA history, signed a three-year deal with the Hornets before the season but only the first year was guaranteed.

2more years with Gustavo? Oh YEAHH..!!!!!!
If we hadn't I would crap bricks.
The thing I like about Ayon, and what he's done for the organisation, is that he's really expanded the team into Mexico. I mean the amount attention he gets from Mexican media is awesome and does wonders for the organisation.
He's really giving the team a profile there and is a solid investment off the court in addition to what he brings on it.
Well done Gustavo.
More importantly he wants to be here and play for NO.
Well done Mr Ayon!
Muy bueno. Me gusta.
see ya landry, we are set at pf, especially after the draft.
Ayon's been strong this season. His playing time shouldn't be limited just because of Landry. Ayon will be here next season, Landry won't.

It's pretty incredible that people talk all the time about how guys like Yao, Tmac, Kobe, and Jeremy Lin have brought the game to China and made the NBA so popular there, while no one brings up marketing in Mexico. They're right next door, have a huge emigrant population in the US, and have a lot of people. I know they already are entrenched in baseball and soccer, but if the Hornets could become a favored team in Mexico like the Rockets were in China during the Yao/Tmac heyday, it would be huge for marketing
He's played well enough to deserve it. It's going to be AWESOME to have two more years of him, and at a bargain price.
Pan American Life is a massive insurance presence in Latin America and is headquartered just a few blocks from the Hornets. This was pointed out to Hugh in no uncertain terms by Ryan and I on our podcast with him.
Yeah, they better cash in on Ayon, Vasquez, and more if there are more.

I Went to the Spurs game and the fans there even love Ayon....it was kind of odd
What if Ayon becomes popular enough to get an All-star birth, simply because of his heritage? If Yi Jianlian can become an all-star, Ayon sure as hell can. We need to get our friends next door to vote.

this is an interesting observation. If Ayon breaks out... the Hornets could make a splash in heavily-Mexican parts of the country... and we could get a bigger fan following along the southwest... even sneak some SA... DAL... HOU fans to following the Hornets
and if Vasquez becomes a huge part of our team... we would be the team for fans from south of the border
