I actually really like Knights, I could see it being a realistic possibility even though it's not "local".

The Knights and the Saints would go great together even, both religious and prestigious names. They FIT together! It could be awesome! I just don't know that much about the whole creole, french, acadian connection but nothing a little research can help. The Knights protect the King's COURT, New Orleans even has a old capital building that looks like a CASTLE. Louisiana is named after a french king, King LOUIS. They can use King Rex also. They can even name the mascot the Cajun Crusader! Boom. Our whole cultural is influenced by the french. You can't mess it up!

Ahh funny how that just kills it for some people.

I'd kill to see what bigdub could do with Knights. Not to mention, the FDL is easily incorporated with Knights as a base.

I could definitely do with Knights, and I'm looking forward to the Pirate version of Corsairs.

I must say...I like it. Knights and Saints would be a very nice connection with each other. While Knights could be considered a generic name, it can easily blend in with our culture. Someone mentioned the ability to make a fleur-de-lis logo with it...using a sword, that could be easily done. A locally-themed mascot name like Cajun Crusader could easily be conjured up. The name has an agressive kick, plus no other team in the big four team sports (NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB) claims the name so it would be unique.

Brass would be okay also. Obvious local connection. A fleur-de-lis design could be made from that using a trumpet, perhaps. The name itself doesn't provide that agressive kick that VooDoo or Knights does, but I agree with others in that it's the "safe" choice.

You can officially count me in on the Knights bandwagon.

On a seperate issue, what do most of you think about uniting black and old gold with the new team color scheme to establish a NOLA sports identity, a la Pittsburgh's black and yellow gold?

I think it would be cool. I don't think it would make us the stepchild to the Saints at all and would draw on plenty of civic pride, which has been a goal of the franchise over the past year. Also the color scheme would be unique to the NBA.

Just imagine how the city would be decked out in December/January with two first-class, contending franchises...

Personally I'm all for it and don't think it would be "little brother" at all. In talking with other team's fans they think black and gold is needed in the league. Not including Washington's hideous alternates.

Agreed on all counts. I don't think WAS still uses those alternates, though.

Knights is the best name heard on this board. Breakers are a distant second.

Knights is a pretty good name. Simple. Flows well. Could make a good logo with it.

New Orleans Knights. Better than Hornets for sure.

Emeka Okafor - Joe Smith - Carmelo Anthony - Manu Ginobili - Jason Williams

Al Jefferson - James Posey - Aaron McKie - Shaun Livingston

The knight connection to NOLA is interesting.

Read the Wikipedia page of Order of the Holy Spirit and Philippe II, Duke of Orléans.

The city was named in honor of Phillipe II who was a knight in the Order.

That is an awesome idea! If we re-brand to Knights then this will happen. Lol

  25. #825
New Orleans Chomp. Alligators are all over LA so this makes more sense than Knights or any other name like that. We could call the arena the swamp and could have one sick logo.
