Contracting Contraction, Proposing Proposals, and the Drew League

    42 - Hornets247.com

    Bee Bite: 2011.08.16

1 Page of Page 2 New Orleans Hornets News

Countdown: 31 days, ~1250 season tickets to go, 35 parties left

    Countup: Day 47 of Lockout

The more it gets brought up, the more wrong-headed it sounds: Contraction.

I spent part of today talking about it, and it sounded sillier with every word. The casual manner with which the term is tossed about says many things about those tossers. You can’t just evaporate a team with a flick of the switch. There are leases, contracts, sponsors who have written checks (like Entergy just did), governments who have given special tax rates . . . stuff an MBA-type would call “many moving pieces.” Life isn’t that easy, sadly, Simmons, Berger, and company.

Try to contract the New Orleans Hornets . . . you'll be writing checks for at least 9,000 season tickets to some scream season ticket holders (me, for one), and you'll have to get by the LSED, Bobby Jindal, Mitch Landrieu, the LSED, SMG, Tom Benson, and line of others.

We found some good articles that come from the same general directions.

Tom Ziller has tacked 95 theses (electronically) on the (electronic) door the NBA and NBPA both use.

The NCAA is looking to tighten its rules and penalties for rule-breakers. Is this in part, at least in terms of timing, an effect of the lockout?

Lastly, we check in the the Drew League.

    Carry on.
