So that's what I smelled when we were hanging out last night...

Say what you want, but our city was named after the Duke of Orleans. Some of the Dukes were warriors, and I am pretty sure the one we are named after was.
Anyone suggest VooDoo yet in part 4? :p
Second post in the thread.
Wonder when they're going to get the ball rolling on this officially. Obviously it's going to be a year but since Benson owns the team now I would have thought they'd announce a contest or a pool of names or something.
Pure speculation... early 2013 before we starting seeing the designs etc.
I've been told that the ball is rolling but it's all within the Saints camp. Meaning that Benson might leave it up to their marketing department to handle the re-brand as opposed to the Hornets team. I don't know how much consolidation is going on within both businesses, but I'd venture to say that their is some slight favoritism on behalf of those working with the Saints, simply because they've been around him longer.Quote:

It's not out of the ordinary to think that some job's might be clipped in the process, especially since it happens all the time when companies sell, take over or consolidate. I know that I hate to see people losing jobs, not that they will, but by the new offices planned on being built and relocated on next to the Saints facility, it may prove to stressful for whatever reasons to continue working for the club.
But if what I was told hold's water, their new offices will incorporate a sky walk between both buildings so that personnel can move in between as needed.
There are changes afoot, unreported changes... domething between normal turnover and dismissals.
Leave the name as is.
The best possible name is in Utah.
I thought about this for a few days and came up with something.
Instead of going with 'The New Orleans ______' maybe 'The Crescent City __________' would be... something.
Golden State has done it, and I love that. It would be cool. Of course, more of just a thought.
Look through this thread. You'll find some.

Philippe II, Duke of Orléans
His father having gained military distinction in the Battle of Cassel and during the decisive French victory against William III of England, Chartres would similarly demonstrate military prowess. Chartres had his first experience of battle at the siege of Mons in 1691, the year before his marriage. He fought with great distinction at the Battle of Steenkerque on 3 August 1692. In the same year Chartres also served at the Siege of Namur. The following year Chartres served at the Battle of Landen; he fought along side the prince de Conti, who was wounded.
During a hiatus between military assignments, Chartres studied natural science.
In the next century, Chartres would serve in the War of the Spanish Succession. He was next given a command in Italy (1706) and gained much credit for the Battle of Turin. Later he went to Spain and took part in the Battle of Almansa, a major step in the consolidation of Spain under the Bourbons (1707), where he achieved some important successes.
The NOLA Bounce gets my vote
Benson seems intent on intermingling the operations and staffs of both his NFL and NBA franchises. So it would naturally follow that he would want to have names for both that interrelate.
So I'd postulate that names like Angels and Cardinals have to be heavy favorites right now since they closely relate to the Saints.
Second tier, those that relate to the city/region but less so to the Saints are Dukes, Royals.
Others that are just just regional but still good: Pelicans, Krewe, Voodoo, Pirates, Brass, Revelers, Jesters, Buccaneers, Privateers.
IMHO amorphous names like Spirit, Bounce, Rhythm, Pride, Soul are just not good mascot choices. Surge could work because it has a regional tie-in.
Benson said he wanted to get the Jazz name back... not Saints related but has regional ties. I agree the name should be something regional...
"Bounce" definitely is regional. Its a music style indigenous to New Orleans

Voodoo might actually happen, that's exciting.
Yep I'm not sure what to think of the AFL/Voodoo rejecting the offer given the league's financial situation. My guess is they just want to exact a higher price out of Benson. They aren't really in a position to just flat out ignore a large cash payment.
