Not personal.
That research fuels a fire I have no interest in, at least in the way most are.
Again, I think this "We have enough, let's wait and see and be excited for a new name" is fine.
I think it's very reasonable.
The vehemence, again, was misplaced. It was never the logo and it will never be.
Not sure what's up with 42,
I do agree with one part,
The friggen logo means nothing . . . . to New Orleans. Yes the team is here to stay, great - now I can't speak for everyone but I want a logo and a name that represents New Orleans.
I don't think that's true.
And it's not that simple. There's a difference between not caring about the topic and caring about people who care about a topic. I fall into the latter category.

At any rate, it's not about me. I pointed out what has been true all along and the recent lack of activity has supported: The rebrand is just not that important. Enjoy it, then move on, should it happen. If it doesn't, enjoy the Hornets and move on.
What's wrong with that?
Exactly, if the rebrand doesn't happen I will still love the hornets. Hell, I am on a message board for the team. But I want a rebrand more than any single thing to happen this year.
It's not like we can do anything about it and Benson just said the other day that it remains one of his top priorities
The information indicates that a waiver was granted.
Benson is still sounding like it will be done. John Reid is still talking about the league mandated minimum 2 years but he probably knows nothing about the waiver.
http://www.nola.com/hornets/index.ss...ner_tom_4.htmlQuote:
To fully re-brand the franchise, Benson wants to change the team's nickname to something that would more closely identify it with New Orleans. Benson said he gets letters daily from fans suggesting names. Benson didn’t offer any suggested names he liked but said changing the nickname remains a priority.
Under league rules, the NBA expects a minimum two years notice for a franchise to change its nickname. NBA Commissioner David Stern said there’s no chance of the Utah Jazz relinquishing its nickname back to New Orleans.
"I feel strongly that we need to change that name,’’ Benson said. "When the Jazz was here that meant something to New Orleans. So we have to have something like that. Sometime in the future we’ll get a new name and it will be that much better. Maybe one that relates to our community a little closer than the Hornets do.’’
I don't know either. Not know know. Jimmy Smith has reported it, others have talked about it indirectly, indicating when they expect the Desire (or whatever) to begin play.
It's be cool if they announced it between now and the opening tip.
Actually, to me it is. I'm tired of that friggin name. That said, I don't comment in this thread because it would just be pointless babble at this stage. I don't really buy into your argument that apathy about posting about it means people don't care one way or the other. People just realize it's a futile exercise and, quite frankly, not very interesting when it's just regurgitating the handful of ideas again and again. Look at the last ten pages or so of this thread -- other than discussion of the facts/evidence regarding the mechanics of the change the discussion on the name itself is pretty banal. It's like arguing about your favorite color.
And what has changed?
Why is it tired now and not for the last 10.5 years?
Because it was tired for the past 10 years, until 5 months ago when Benson bought the team and breathed new life into it. We created all of these threads, hundreds of pages worth, in rampant discussion. Strong opinions were stated, fights were had, Voodoo was practiced. A steady stream of information helped keep things pumping. We're in that period where we are waiting for new information, but also excited for the team to start playing tomorrow. The rebrand is important to me, but right now the most important thing is what will happen on the court.
I can post here every day that I'm excited for a rebrand, that Voodoo tops my list but I'd also be in favor of Brass or Pelicans or Dukes, but like Unknown said, after awhile there isn't much more to say. I hope we find out tomorrow what the new name is. That would be great timing to release the information if, as was speculated, the team has already picked a name. But if we don't find out tomorrow, we'll find out soon. And it'll be a great day.
All I read is unacknowledged agreement
When this topic has been brought up over the past 10 years, it was so unlikely to happen that everyone's favorite was equally likely to win out. Of the unofficial official options we've seen leaked out, I think Voodoo is the only one with more positive than negative approval. Since that is no longer the rumor du jour I think you have gotten to the point where maybe a rebrand isn't as important, not because people don't want one, they just don't want what they see as a downgrade or even lateral move from Hornets. People want a rebrand they can get excited about, not Tom Benson replacing Shinn's generic nickname with his own local but still generic nickname.
You are right in that the rebrand argument has often been a proxy for something else, but that doesn't mean the logo itself isn't important. It's just that Hornets isn't as tainted as others have made it out to be in the past, so the team can do worse and no one wants that.
I'm just waiting for either a contest or the announcement of the new name and colors.
I'm just waiting for Wednesday! :D
I mean, yeah, if nothing new happens for a while, active interest dips.
I'm not super-charged every day by the thought of a rebrand right now, but if you ask me, I'll tell you I want it to happen and am excited about it, but that it's A. still far away, and B. nothing new has been said about it in a while.
I don't feel apathy towards it; I just have more of a passive interest, since there isn't anything new to discuss or participate in.
Pretty sure there were massive periods of lull in those last 10.5 years, too. Hell I didn't even post on this site for a good four or five years. I'd say the percentage of time a rerbrand wasn't discussed over the last ten years versus the amount it has been discussed is probably a ratio of around 95% to 5% I'm just not following your argument.
If I wanted to get a rise out of people, I could.
So could you.
People are agreeing: rebrand will be nice. It's not critical.
I can't speak for others but it's still critical to me -- I just don't feel the need to harp on it to a group of people who are probably sick of reading my opinion for the umpteenth time (which hasn't changed: Voodoo all the way, Pelicans suck, etc.).
Edit: I'm overreacting to something else that's got me drove right now. I shouldn't post when I'm already angry. Aplogize for angry words and to 42. Don't want to make any enemies on HR. He's sort of right but I disagree mostly. Will leave it at that.
Voodoo all the way, agreed.
Someone reacting to my commentsin no way indicates the intention to provoke a negative reaction. If people react, that's their deal.
I'm sure some people place critical value on the brand /the rebrand. The issue in the populace has taken a steo back.
Fact.
I don't disagree with that fact I just disagree with your interpretation of it. And I think there are plenty of other facts that lend support to other interpretations.
I'm just so drove :hihi: edited my last comment.
I made this argument after the lottory, because to me the it was not a high on my issue list. I thought after winning the lottory the rebrand would be icing, but not the cake. Davis was the cake for me. Before the lott though, I wanted a rebrand for 2 reasons:
1. To have something to be excited about with this franchise
Now we have Gordon and Davis, so this isn't a good reasoning for me anymore.
2. We didn't have an identity
Anthony Davis is now our identity for better or worse, IMO.
Why are y'all taking something fun and making it serious conversation?
Choosing a new name and a logo and colors is supposed to be FUN. Of course keeping the team in New Orleans is the #1 priority. Doesn't change the fact that it would be alot of fun to get a team name, colors, and a logo that would be new to New Orleans.
Which brings me to another name I just thought of --- We should be the New Orleans 42 Proxy Fights. People would just call us the 42s.
Point is: The primary worry is now off the table, which was them up and leaving. Now, in 2012, we get to actually enjoy our basketball team and the process of coming up with a new name, logo, and colors. If it sucks, who cares -- we're going to love them anyway (even if they really do get named the 42s). So sit back, enjoy the process, and for goodness sakes, STOP ARGUING ABOUT DUMB $#!T
As a total outsider, I'd just like to thank 42 for getting the thread revved up again ;)
I know, and I agree. Just a little good-natured ribbing...his initial post seemed destined (at least, it seemed like it was intended to be destined) to put a cap on the issue for the time being, but instead caused the most activity on the thread (a thread I monitor religiously, mind you) in weeks.
You know. It was ironical 'n stuff ;)
Not trying to be jerk now 42, cause I just thought to check myself, but sure enough the Pelican thread had posts from two days ago. So that ten day drought of rebrand talk kinda doesn't hold up. Like I said, not antagonizing just proclaiming.
It had diminishing posts... and even the moddiest of mods didn't think about merging see? Less importance.
Not unimportant. Less. Less than it seemed before ownership settled.
And why was the thread there? Talking about what? The info came from where? But, yeah, I'm clueless. I pay no attention.
No one is discussing the rebrand, just protesting that I dissented or touting the oersonal significance to oneself.
None of that controverts the facts I raised, and I see no contrary facts being floated.
An unmerged thread about a summary of rebrand knowledge written on the outside is the counterexample? Well, it's not much of one.
It's ok for the fandom to consider the rebrand less important. Really. It is.
What facts do you want us to discus. There is no new news and there hasn't been in a while. I agree that the lack of information coming from the front office/ benson is aggravating but we shouldn't have to keep dragging this subject on when we know it's inevitable that the change will come.

Any facts that controvert my claim that is now recognized as less important than it seemed.
Those facts.
See? Nothing to talk about.
I really have to think when I read 42's posts
You really are hanging on to a thin thread. Just let it go.
If you made a poll right now I'm sure atleast 80% on this site would want a rebrand still.
Is your argument really that a rebrand is not as critical as getting new ownership and a lease? Well no duh.
It's still something the majority wants and is important to them.
Personal tastes aside, of course. I'm talking in aggregate.
Davis will have people plenty fired up with about 3m left in the half, hopefully.
Said another way: if Benson called off the rebrand, how many people would react the same way as if it was Bhatal doing so, even after signing the lease, tv deal, etc. The whole nine. Really?
Rhetorical question, clearly.
I'm more excited about the fun of it than ever now, but I'm fine with no rebrand. Perfectly fine. That has not changed.
What is also interesting is the confort level people have with an octogenarian owner. Sheesh! Nervous here.
I'm sure it's important to hundreds of people. Maybe thousands.
The new TV deal reaches 2.5m homes.
And why must I defend this one piece of analysis of the rebrand? Can't a man have a dissenting opinion / analysis and casually express it among friends and the rest of you? I thought those days were done.
Dudes!
You don't get to be as rich as Benson without being smart about your money and planning for the inevitable. I'm sure he has all of his ducks in a row. Didn't we conclude that the Benson sports empire will be run by Lauscha for the foreseeable future whether Benson is alive or not?
You and me both.
I'm down with a poll on this matter so I don't have to read all of this intellectual lovely insight crap and literature that looks like it's a cross between psychology and Shakespeare.
Is it too much to have some simple and to the point posts about rebrand topics that don't cause tangents and actually use correct grammar anymore? haha... come on fellas.
