ESPN: Gordon presented with option of micro-fracture surgery as potential remedy

Horrible news.

This guy is never going to be the same or ever play on a consistent basis. They'll never be able to trade him. No one is going to take on the salary. Matching just hamstringed this franchise for four years.

Apparently our pre-Max Contract physical sucked.

I would take any combination of expiring scrubs in exchange for Gordon at this point.

Well, There are a lot of parallels between disaster in New York and New Orleans. The disaster, and now superstars at max money who won't play 10% of their games that are constantly getting knee surgeries after being proclaimed to be "healthy".

How long would he be out if he takes this? He should just get the Kobe treatment.

Pretty sure it's measured in months. I guess it varies but from what I recall the average is like four to six months. And, of course, results aren't guaranteed.

As much as I love Dell, he made his first major mistake in matching that offer.

So in Eric Gordon time it would be...?.... ooooh I'd estimate 2 1/2 years.

It's nice that they have found out what's been disturbing him. Hopefully there's a treatment and he should recover completely after.
I don't any reason to be mad the guy right now. He is the one who's suffering !

I'd agree, but if the medical staff gave him a clean bill of health, I wouldn't put all the blame on Dell.

Personally, I think EG takes a hammer to his knee every night before bed.

Its stated in the article that the approached him about having Microfracture surgery during last season. He opted to have the scope instead because he wanted to go though free agency. I think the reason the Hornets went through with matching is because at the time his knee was fine and according to the MRIs, even now, there was no structural damage to keep him from playing. So you can't put it all on the Hornets when at the time he was recovering fine. He was even well enough to try out for Team USA.

Eric could have nipped this whole thing in the bud if he would have just gotten the surgery during last season BUT he went for the money instead....

I agree but if he's a key player to this franchise there's no reason to rush him back. Especially this year. Let him recover at 100 %.

So it does look like he's going to be missing some serious time at least. Maybe not microfracture surgery (remember, there's been no con, but if it's serious enough for that to be an option, it doesn't look too great. However, this can actually be viewed as good thing. Here are some positive spins to this.

1. With this news, this will force Davis to step up as a leader from the get go and perhaps all of his rookie season. He will be able to adjust to being "the guy" much quicker.

2. More playing time for Rivers and Miller. :)

3. Better draft pick. This is the biggest plus that has to come from this in my opinion. I don't want to say a lock since we never know how good Davis will be, but we now have a very good chance to be at least top 10 in this draft, and with potential to be picking better. Rivers is going to struggle, and Vasquez is a below average starter. Our backcourt is very, very weak right now. Shabazz Muhammed please :D

What a mistake it was to match the offer when Phoenix was begging to take him off our hands. The Hornets should fire the doctor who gave the Hornets the all clear to sign. I don't care how much potential or passed performance ANY player has you just don't give him a contract extention when he's damaged goods. It's not good business. It's like buying a car that doesn't even start up.

Not to play super overly positive guy here, but this could prove to be a good thing in disguise. Austin is going to be thrown into the fire. Which ultimately could result in him progressing better than he would have sitting on the bench. They now have a developing core poised to compete without feeling like, "if we dont have Eric we wont win." They are going to learn quickly what it takes to play in this league. Sign a dude next offseason, collect a lottery pick and if you get a totally healthy and hopefully better frame of mind Gordon back next season his presence will just be a bonus. If not no big deal. Yeah I know the money is tied up. But there is something called amnesty, if necessary. This whole situation is going to be a blessing in disquise.

Why didn't he "Consult a specialist" before this point? I don't get it.

Apparently, you do not understand what that thing called the amnesty is and when it can be used.

I cannot believe that if the Hornets were aware that microfracture surgery was a possibility last year, that they actually matched the offer (and remember, made him a huge offer before that). Why is it that the Hornets consistently have incompetent medical staffs? Benson wasted $58 million. Someone's head will roll.
