I don't think I like Rougarou. For some reason it keeps reminding me of gris gris.

The only people i find that like pelicans are on this forum. On other forums no one likes pelicans.

For the record, my girlfriend thinks it's awful.

But I think she's dead wrong.

We've had some time to adjust to Pelicans and we're just hearing Rougarou. Rougarou is leading in anyways. Wonder what it would be like if the roles were switched.

Pelicans is still my favorite, but I could absolutely get behind Rougarou. Just too weird and hilarious not to love

Took a visit to TigerDroppings. Can tally a few more "horribles". But those cats don't seem to like anything.

1. Swamp Dogs=2 syllables, relatable to NOLA, marketable, unique
2. Pelicans=unique, baddest bird out there

Rougarou is a joke idea. We'd be the absolute laughingstock of the NBA, for good reason.

I said it in the other thread but I'll say it here too... Swamp Dogs (which was a finalist for the name) was my 1B choice with VooDoo when Benson was looking for a name for the AFL team... but for some reason it's not striking me as a NBA team name now

Pelicans grew on me real quick... esp w/ the logo that has spread around here

Rougarou could grow on me too... unique name... local urban legend... would need some work but depending on the look I could be sold on it

Agreed. I'd take pelicans over any of the other names. Swamp Dogs sounds like an arena football name, bull sharks, ok where's the nola connection, mosquitos, no. Rougarou really is that even a legitimate suggestion? Maybe I'm not "cultured" enough, but after spending twenty years in nola, I've never even heard of the damn thing.

Really? Most people living in Louisiana and no one north of I-12 knows what the heck a Rougarou is so how do you market that outside of Lafourche Parrish much less trying to reach a global market?

We should be able to choose more than one.

Of those, I'd say Rougarou. I would prefer having a werewolf as a mascot than someone walking around in a pelican outfit.

The only thing about Rougarou is hearing a lot of people try to pronounce it.

i was born and raised in new orleans and the first time i ever heard the word "rougarou" was yesterday. i thought tom's whole idea was to pick something that represents & symbolizes the city.

that's my last comment, i'll let the pro-rougarous continue their crusade. but in all honesty, i'd prefer every single other name suggested.

I'm torn between the Pelicans and the Hornets. I don't like Rougarou, but I hate Bullsharks and Mosquitos, and I REALLY hate Swamp Dogs.

My top choice is still "Krewe of New Orleans."
