I really like the idea of using Crescent City as a proxy for New Orleans but I've yet to see it matched with a good nickname.

I've also thought about Blues but, honestly, that would be more of a Memphis thing.
I almost feel that Crescent City would have to be paired with an alliterative name. And none of those (Krewe, Crusaders, Crewcuts, Croupiers) resonate with me.
I actually liked the name prior to the concept (I asked BigDub to create the Concept which turned out much better than I pictured in my mind). Its less NOLA but still fits the city bc of the River, the Lake, and the Gulf. It fitting for the Gulf Coast Region more so than just NOLA. I like it but I realize not everyone will.
I don't like Breakers, I have no connection to the name other than Marcus Dupree.

VooDoo - meh
Soul - I get visions of Bon Jovi
Blues - Welcome to St Louis!
===
Dukes - gives that sense of royalty, yet not a King. Words with our Jazz heritage as well as Mardi Gras and our French heritage.
Monarchs - We rule!! Put a crown on Pistol Pete and we're good.
Pirates - would be really good if not for Pittsburgh's long lasting hold on crappiness.

Pride - sorry, WNBA v1
Brass - Hello ECHL fans, we're back and better than ever.
Krewe - not my favorite, but it does work. When we were first named Jazz, I wasn't sold on it, but I was 9 or 10 years old. I sent in 10 different names to the TP contest, and Jazz wasn't one of them.
Captains - Riverboat Captains ?
while I suggested "Pride" as a nickname I do like Brass. I am not from N.O., in fact i have never been then there. I am Charlotte Hornets holdover. And would love to keep "Hornets" as the name. However, I do feel the team should be better represented by the city. And everytime I see things on N.O. on TV, rather its the Travel Channel or Food Network or any other piece on the culture of N.O., there is an extraordinary pride the people of New Orleans have in their city. Yes other people have a love for their city but New Orleans has a desire and a push to maintain the things that make it awesome. This pride is very visable and unique. And with all the things everyone has been through there, the people of New Orleans, have the hearts of lions. Thats just the way I see it.
Oh I know. I just wanted an excuse to use that horrifying picture. :)
How about:
The New Orleans Spirit...
The Spirit of New Orleans.
I know a TV news station uses that here locally but it seems to fit all that we've been through as a city.
We possess Great resilient Spirit...
Pick apart at your leisure...
Sportscenter just tweeted this:
If they even think about airing something about Hurricanes, people better flood their inbox with complaints the way they did for all the other offensive stuff they've done this year.Quote:
New Hornets owner Tom Benson wants to change name of team, so let's help him out. #NewOrleansMascotShouldBe _____. Best tweets air!
Oh. Forgot one. Crescent City Carnival.
Crescent City Soul
Not sure which direction the logo would go though?
How about New Orleans Bayou with a gator mascot?
"The Dukes" DOES have a ring to it though ;)
I would not want "Cresent City." It has to be New Orleans ______ .
