Some people are really old 'round here. Hell, they'd probably suggest New Orleans Longshoreman sounds too much like Huey Long.

Arcangels......................................... .................................................. .............................................epic
I'm from Charlotte, so I've got great interest in this topic.
My opinion most likely won't matter to you but, here are my thoughts.
Pelicans- I think it's awesome and unique. I would love to see the logo and uniforms. From an outsider, I think This is the coolest name.
Dukes- I've seen the mock up from BigDub and it looks fierce, I thinks it's a pretty cool name. For those concerned about David Duke, I'm 35 years old and I've heard the name but, I have no clue who he is or what he did so I would assume most people my age or younger would never draw the comparison.
Krewe- sounds cool but, I can't think of what a logo or mascot would look like.
Bounce- this one interests me. It has a cool basketball sound and also has a music feel as well.
Firebirds- only 1 person said this but, I thought it would be pretty awesome as well.
Anyway good luck, and coming from a Charlotte fan who desperately wants the name Hornets back, I hope u guys get a great new name and logo very soon.
Also, the Nets new mercahndise has been on fire and have sold more Brooklyn gear in 3 days than NJ Nets gear all of last season. I can see New Orleans gear doing the same with a new brand and quickly help pay back the investment to change.
This thread certainly defines "silent majority".
You are off the rails, panic.
And lots of people repeating their favorite ideans or panning others... maybe 100 or so users... really is a good sample of Hornets fans around the city, state, country, and world?
I think the Dukes jersey was about 200 post ago. But I can't guarantee that.
Sorry, the Dukes logo was

I was talking about bad names, Unknown Poster.
What about New Orleans Revolution? For the obvious French connection and also like the revolution of a basketball as it travels. I would love to see what bigdub could do with that.
I just don't like non-plural names, it's so awkward to talk about them in conversations. Would each player be a Revolution? A Rev? "I'm so glad to be a..." :hihi:
It's still a highly questionable name choice, but guys, can you just imagine the amount of positive press we'd get if we were to find success under the name Hurricanes? Y'know, moving on from not only the negative memories of the Hornets name and the word "hurricane", but also from the pain and suffering from Katrina. The team would then represent the full rebirth of a city, rising above the past and proudly facing the future, unafraid.......
......Of course, that's only if we start winning, although it'd still make an interesting marketing strategy. :p
Nonplurals and mass nouns make taking about teams cumbersome.
Just saw some corroboration on the horrible names. The data isn't clear on whether the 'locale'horrible part of the name is New Orleans or Louisiana.
I'll keep digging, as will the people actually doing the work.
At least give us one of the horrible names!

Angels and Spirit, according to Hornets247.
You believe them? I do, but I'm kinda stupid...
And a caloeie for Heat? Joule?
Yea, ArcAngels/Angels is pretty awful for a basketball team. Also, pelicans is bad
If we are reserving names and logos could this be happening sooner then we thought (this offseason?)
Angels is the one name I could get behind.
Spirit is a great WNBA name but no way could any self respecting NBA team call themselves that.
Chance favors only the prepared mind -- Pasteur
I'd rather Keep hornets then being called the Spirit or Angels.
I'm ok with Angels. Between the two in a poll it would probably win 90%+. Hopefully they do so if these are true.
I am thinking this news will now prompt the big Angels vs. Spirit debate....the only 2 things we can count on are: 1. that our opinions matter very, very little (if at all) and 2. this franchise will be supported regardless of what name is ultimately chosen...
Ha I'll start it off
Angels: There is already a pro team called the Angels so that name is weak
Spirit: Blows my mind that people think this is a good name for a MENS basketball team. That's what our cheer squad should be called
I could live with angels but I wouldn't want a crazy logo like the arcangels one. It looks cool but its too busy, simple and clean is always the best bet when it comes to logos.
I also hope its not Black and Gold color scheme...allow this team to have somewhat of their own identity. I would like Navy and Gold.
If Bigdub has taught me anything its that ANY nickname can be ok if the logo and colors are done well.... That being said... I would freak out pretty hard about being a hardcore Spirit fan.. I could live with Angeles.
Edit: ALSO PLEAAAASE BENSON LET US HAVE OUR OWN COLORS! NO BLACK AND GOLD NBA TEAM!
No, angels, or spirits, knights or any part of a king's (which is a franchise already) court, nola is too unique for that, since we cant get jazz back, go with the originators, pays hommage to all that nola has done culturally for the US. For short, call the team the OGs, that has meaning too if u know what it stands for.
Wow that post is so many different ways wrong I don't know where to start.
UUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
It's so lame to try and "integrate" the two teams, really amateur.
Angels? Wait a minute? That's only half the name. It's ok but incomplete.
What about Arcangels? That's epic. Come on mannnn.....
Calling on Bigdub
How's the Pilots concept coming? Maybe it can swoop in and save the day!
But the ship hasn't completely sunk yet...:D
I could live with Angels. For what it's worth, Benson is very religious.
I'm not so into the Spirits.
It all comes down to the branding that the team/league/Adidas put together for the name.
I mean, something like this would be awful:
http://www.drawinghowtodraw.com/step...y-in-color.png
But the name could work.
How about White and Gold as the colors? That gives Benson a bit of brand unity (Gold), without making it seem like the NBA team is just the little brother of the Saints. You might need a third, darker color to trim with. I'm guessing gold aways wouldn't work.
I'm imagining a teaser poster/billboard/webpage that is just a lone basketball sitting on a gym floor, with a glowing halo above it.
I like the colors that Bigdub used with his Arc Angels design. Navy blue and gold could be done very well, as long as we don't do it the Wizards blue and gold way.
